There are two principle types of spinal surgery: open and minimally invasive. True to their names, minimally invasive spinal surgery does not involve long incisions or any manipulation of the muscles and tissue surrounding the spine. Open spinal surgery has been around longer and takes longer to complete. Doctors may open the operative site with a long incision so they can view and assess the spine in real view. Both surgeries are often pursued when patients are dealing with severe back pain -- or to stabilize and realign crooked or unstable spines. It’s expensive to do so in the States. But clinics in Israel, Costa Rica and Colombia may be better suited to perform elective orthopedic procedures at cheaper rates. Below are some of your options.
